The Urban Mission Trip this year really had an impact on the way that I view my life. Hearing the stories of the homeless community members about how they became homeless was truly eye opening. Most of the stories I heard had a common cause. They all became homeless because of drug use and addiction. I have always known the dangers of drugs, but seeing the effects of them was astonishing.
The first part of the trip that really hit me was going to one of the camps and cleaning up the trash. I have never seen that much trash in one spot and the fact that people live on it amazes me. Seeing the conditions they were in made me realize how lucky we are and taught me how to appreciate even the small things.
The experience that I had is one that I hope others can go through as well. It not only changed the way that I view my life, but it gave me the opportunity to grow in my faith on so many levels. I was able to see God working through each and every one of us and giving us the drive to help these people. The Light of Life foundation was so grateful and it was incredible to see that.
