The Call
In a foreign land we travelled far
Heart and spirit, they set us apart
People and earth showed us all
Why we really answered the call
From shoe to shoe, heart to heart
We showed what it means to play the part
Smiles and hugs, heartfelt gestures
For God, we were His messengers
Like minded people, wishing to help
They gave to the children, a part of themselves
Coming with baggage, physically and spiritually
We were there for each other, fully and totally
Helping each other to answer their call
We answered the call though we were hesitant
To help the country in which they’re resident
Through tears and sadness we left those individuals
Who made the trip unforgettably original
Those are the people who made us answer the call
Hearing stories about hardship and heartache
Giving them support, solely for their sake
The only number that’s truly hard to hear
Is 23, from a gang acting as a puppeteer
It’s stories like these why we answered the call
Hoping for an impact, we faced hard truth
Never again will we see these youth
Nevertheless, we made it the best
And now we come home and take our rest
Recalling the time when we answered the call
Shoes and love, our mission was clear
Giving them our time to volunteer
Thinking of those times, we began to bawl
About that time we answered the call
