I recently returned from a week of service at the Light of Life Rescue Mission through Saints John & Paul Catholic Church. It was a phenomenal experience with my 2 sons. At Light of Life, we helped with the following:
1) Cleaned up homeless sites in downtown Pittsburgh
2) Had a picnic and cooked for the homeless women and children
3) Organized the Light of Life Distribution center
4) Accompanied underprivileged men and women through the store on Ridge Avenue
5) Served Multiple meals to homeless men
6) Heard testimonies of people that have changed their lives by finding Christ and ridding themselves of drug and alcohol additions
7) Gave hope to a homeless woman that was just released out of jail
8) Learned more about the power of prayer in this world
All week, I was amazed by the folks that worked for the Light of Life. They were extremely selfless people that were so grateful to be working for such a great organization. I know this experience helped the Light of Life and and the homeless folks that we served, but it also helped me become less selfish. I highly recommend a volunteer outing for your group.
