There is a large community of Catholic homeschooling families in the area. If you have questions and want to talk to an experienced homeschooling family, please reach out. Below are some specific groups and co-ops that can offer you support.
Saint Ambrose Academy (SAA) aims to create a unique support space for Catholic homeschooling families in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, PA and foster a spirit of community among participating families. SAA meets twice weekly for classes implemented by qualified instructors, in order to educate children in a small classroom setting in partnership with their parents at home. Days 1 and 3 of the syllabus are taught in person on Mondays and Wednesdays at SAA, while parents teach days 2, 4, and 5 at home with general guidance provided by the teacher each week We offer a traditional Montessori Primay program for 3 to 6 year olds, as well as a Catholic, classical curriculum for Kindergarten through 8th grade with plans to expand through the high school level. Saint Ambrose Academy follows Mother of Divine Grace School's syllabi in almost all subject areas for grades K through 8. Mother of Divine Grace School offers a solidly Catholic, classical approach to learning. The academy meets at the former St. Bonaventure Parish School building and is an independent 501c3 organization. St. John Paul II Co-op has been in existence for over 10 years and includes both veteran homeschooling families, whose older children have moved on to college, and young homeschooling families, who are just getting started. In addition to many field trips and science fairs, the JPII Co-op has weekly parent-led classes for students in preschool-12th grade held at Sts. John and Paul on Tuesdays during the school year. Totus Tuus Co-op provides an enjoyable, educational, enriching atmosphere where its Catholic families, in adherence to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, educate, guide and enrich their families with friendship and class participation. Totus Tuus meets twice monthly on Fridays in the North Hills. The parents provide the primary substantive education of their children. No specific home school curriculum, format or style of education is required for membership in Totus Tuus. Our co-op structure is based on every parent being an active member.
